CHEAP HOTEL IN ALAJUELA COSTA RICA

Alajuela's location makes it a good base for exploring the natural sights of Costa Rica's central valley region. At nearby Poas Volcano National Park (costarics-nationalparks.com), you can visit an active volcano, which has regular eruptions of geysers and lava, most recently in the 1950s. The volcano has two summit crater lakes lining each of the volcano's two calderas. One lake is quite cold with clear water, as its last eruptions were around the sixth century B.C. The other lake, which has erupted regularly throughout modern times, has warm, acidic water. The park features a gift shop, cafeteria and visitor center. Also close to Alajuela, The Butterfly Farm (butterflyfarm.co.cr) gives visitors a glimpse of hundreds of butterfly species, all raised on the premises. A two-hour guided tour discusses the cultural significance of butterflies throughout history. For Cheap Hotel In Alajuela Costa Rica, you can see my list below :

Hotel Casa Tago

Calle 3 avenida 2 | 75 este del antiguo seguro, Alajuela 506, Costa Rica
Hotel Casa Tago is a great little place to stay. The simple but clean rooms are perfect for a stay after a late flight to Alajuela. Umberto and Constanza are wonderful people who run the hotel and Constanza especially went out of her way to answer my many questions. We stayed in an non-air conditioned room and were comfortable. Unberto greeted us with coffee in the morning followed by a nice breakfast. Ariel let us in when we arrived and set us up with the wifi code. I called from the states to make the reservation as I was uncomfortable sending my credit card # via email. This was our 3rd stay at an Alajuela hotel and will be the one we return to if we travel to Costa Rica again. Clean simple room, very affordable and the hosts were priceless.

Hotel Mi Tierra
Start From US$35
350 m este del Costado Norte del Parque Juan, Airport International Juan SantaMaria, Alajuela  Kosta Rika

Hotel Mi Tierra is a great stop-over hotel when you are arriving or leaving Costa Rica. We stayed in San Jose on our way in (which I highly recommend against - San Jose SUCKS!), but stayed in Alajuela for a night before flying out.

The staff are very friendly, and serve a great rice/beans and eggs breakfast for free in the morning. The rooms are relatively small, but clean. There is a living room area with a computer and some couches to hang out on, and the location is great - close to banks, grocery stores, and the Parque Central.

Also, its only about a $8-10 cab ride from the airport (there is no shuttle service offered).

I would not stay here for any extended time, only because Alajuela does not have much of anything to offer. However, this is a great hotel to use as the start or end of your trip!

Hotel Pacande

Hotel Cortez Azul
Start From $
Avenue 5, between Calle 2 and 4, Alajuela Costa Rica
Cortez Azul is a cool hostel, lots of neat art on the walls. The staff are all friendly and helpful, they can help organize some fun daytrips around the San Jose area. The kitchen is well equipped and the rooms are good, small, but good. There is really lots of character. It is close to everything: shops, banks, restaurants, safer than in San Jose too. Close to the airport, only 5 min. Good hostel

Hotel Green Day Inn

50mts west from the Fire Station, Alajuela | Alajuela, 3th Avenue 5th Street, Alajuela 506, Costa Rica
If you would like to stay near the airport, consider the Hotel Green Day (Hotel Dia Verde) in Alajuela. About five minutes from the airport, this small family-run hotel is inexpensive, very pleasant, and easily accessible by bus (the San Jose-Alajuela bus from the stop directly in front of the airport) for less than a dollar or taxi for about $3-4 dollars. I have stayed here several times and Randall (excellent English) and his wife Rosemary have always been very pleasant. For about $30-with breakfast-the Hotel Green Day is a good option for travelers just arriving or leaving the next day.

Hotel Eskalima
Start From $
50 mts de Pizza Hut Calle Ancha | 50 mts Este de Pizza Hut Calle Ancha, Alajuela 20101, Costa Rica
New hotel in Alajuela (opened in 2008) close to a small park on the west-end of the city.

Although Alajuela itself is definitely not a nice place to be we enjoyed our stay in Eskalima Hotel which was due to the nice and clean rooms but first of all owing to Fabiola, the great and nice girl at the reception. She helped us with some recommendations for the city but did also all the email- and telephone work for making a reservation for us in Cuba AND prepared a very nice breakfast (you have three options to choose from).

As Alajuela is closer to the international airport than San José, Eskalima Hotel is a very good place to spend the day and/or night before your flight back.

Many thanks

Hotel Cala Inn Alajuela
Start From $
west side of the Juan Santamaria Park, Alajuela 506, Costa Rica
Cala Inn is a nice hotel for a short stay, either when you arrive at San Jose Airport or flying out early in the morning. It is only 5 minutes away from the airport. It is very clean! The personnel is very helpful. If you need a taxi to go to the airport they will arrange that for you. HOWEVER, watch out the prices!! They'll tell you its 3.000 Colones/6 Dollar to the airport and I had to pay that when they called a taxi for me! But I arrived with a "normal" taxi from the airport, driving with taximeter and it was only 1.600 Colones/approx. 3 Dollars. So I would suggest to go to the street and wait for a normal one!

Hotel II Millenium
Start From $45
Rio Segundo | 1 mile east from Juan Santamaria International Airport, San Jose 0000, Costa Rica
This place is very close to the airport (3-5$ taxi drive). This was handy since I had a late evening flight in. Having an early morning flight out, this was perfect.
The rooms are simple, but clean.
The staff really helpful.
A couple hundred meters away you will find hotels for 3 times the price you pay here.
Being so close to the airport, I was surprised at how low the noise level actually was. I slept well.

For the budget traveler who wants to be near the airport, this is a clean, nice little hotel. Ask for a room away from the street. The Pizza down stairs is excellent and the owners are very nice and helpful.

Needed a place to stay close to SJO Airport since we were flying in around midnight. From my web searches, HVD looked good. On the way there, I got a bit worried, as we seemed to be getting into an industrial area w/ lots of trucks and warhouse-type bldgs, and such. But when we were cordially greeted at 1AM by the staff member and given a nice little cabina to accomodate our needs, rooms were clean and nice, I felt relieved. In the morning, I saw that this was indeed a lovely little oasis in a working area. Everyone was very nice and helpful, and the breakfast was very good. I would definitely stay here again if I needed a place to stay near SJO.

Airport Hotel Berlor
Start From $
2 km east from Juan Santamaria | International Airport, Alajuela 251-3009, Costa Rica
A small place with only a few rooms, currently on a busy road with construction. Clean room, friendly staff. I booked a single and got a very small room that has a shower and toilet tucked into one corner of the room, and a TV in another corner. There is a beautiful inner courtyard with a small pool. The entrance is gated. You park outside and press and entrance buzzer. The gate will open and you can park in a small gated parking lot at the front. It would have been helpful to have a small table bedside to put my clock on, and a reading light over the bed, but I found it to be charming and safe and close to the airport - just what I needed.

Hotel La Rosa de America
Start From $
100 mts Sur y 75 mts Este de La Mandarina | La Garita, Alajuela none, Costa Rica
From the minute we arrived, we were greeted like family - Grisska and Alexa were so helpful with suggestions of where to visit and where to eat. We were even supplied with umbrellas! The gardens at La Rosa are truly beautiful, as was the breakfast (included) The only disappointment we had was that we had only 2 nights there!
